Kaiwei Zhi is a pianist based in New York City. Over the course of his career, he has performed concerti, recitals, and chamber music all over the world.
Kaiwei had his concerto debut at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Kyiv playing Liszt’s La Campanella, while he was studying in R.Glier Kyiv institute of Music, with Uliana Yablobskaya since 2004. He then performed Liszt’s first piano concerto with the State Orchestra of Ukraine. From 2008 to 2012 Kaiwei performed recitals in China, introducing Chinese audiences to Slavic music and won third prize of the 22nd young musician international competition ‘Citta’di Barletta’. After Kaiwei received Bachelor and Master degree’s in Piano performance, 2012 Kaiwei quit performing, spent a couple months in Paris meeting a new group of musicians and studied with Oliver Gardon, and rediscovered his faith and desire for music. In 2014, Kaiwei returned to piano and performed the piano concerto “Yellow River”with ChongQing Philharmonic under the baton of ShangHai Philharmonic’s conductor Xieyang Chen in the Grand Theater of ChongQing. In 2015 Kaiwei went to New York and enrolled in the Manhattan School of Music , studied with deceased maestro Phillip Kawin and got a Professional Study certificate, graduated in 2017 and began studying with American Concert Pianist Spencer Myer. He then received a Graduate Performance Diploma in Piano Performance. In 2019 Kaiwei was the opening performer at a contemporary music recital in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, also the closing performer at a contemporary music recital in Markin Hall New York. In 2020 Kaiwei had his first piano solo recital in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. During Covid, Kaiwei decided to explore another direction of the musical world: French music. After performing Debussy’s Fantasie for Piano and Orchestra with Dr. Leon Burke and University City Symphony in St.Louis, Missouri, USA. In 2023 Kaiwei performed Ravel’s First Piano Concerto in G in Kyiv, with the Honored Academic Symphony Orchestra of Ukrainian Radio, along with Maestro Volodymyr Sheiko, while Ukrainian Russian war continued. In 2025 Kaiwei went back to Kyiv to record and perform Sergei Bortkiewicz’s Second Piano Concerto for the left hand successfully collaborating with the Honored Academic Symphony Orchestra of Ukrainian Radio and Maestro Volodymyr Sheiko. Kaiwei performed this piece live on the national television of the Ukraine, and did a 3 days recording session which was permanently archived.
Shortly after Kaiwei performed Dmitri Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto in Carnegie Hall’s Weil Recital Hall in New York, with the New York Chamber Player Orchestra along with Marstro Giacomo Franci.
